The Medicine of Compassion
Morning Course with Gen Kelsang Chonyi
Saturday 10 December, 10.00am – 12.30pm
@ Pure Land Buddhist Centre, 55 Union Road, Exeter
Compassion is the supreme medicine that has the power to heal both our self and others. Through meditation we can extend and deepen our compassion until it transforms into the mind of universal compassion – the sincere wish to liberate all living beings permanently from suffering.
With a correct understanding we will understand that although compassion finds the suffering of others unbearable, it never makes us depressed but instead it motivates us and leads to an ever increasing happiness and greater ability to bring real benefit to others.
A morning of talks and practical guided meditations suitable for everyone.

“Normally we divide the external world into that which we consider to be good or valuable, bad or worthless, or neither. Most of the time these discriminations are incorrect or have little meaning. For example, our habitual way of categorizing people as friends, enemies, and strangers depending on how they make us feel is both incorrect and a great obstacle to developing impartial love for all living beings. Rather than holding so tightly to our discriminations of the external world, it would be much more beneficial if we learned to discriminate between valuable and worthless states of mind.”
